Your Fast-Start Checklist to Start the Year Ahead

sales planning new year

Picture this: It's Jan 3, 2022. The first working day of the New Year.

What should that day look like for your sales team? What should they have on their to-do list for the week?

Here’s what I don’t want sellers to be doing in January:

  • Hoping they’ll hit their quota, but not clear about what their quota even is this month, quarter, or year.

  • Ruminating about what their compensation plan will look like.

  • Doing nothing because they don’t know what their assignment will be.

  • Wondering what products they should prioritize.

  • Wishing the demand gen campaign for Q1 had already started weeks ago.

  • Guessing, making assumptions, or spinning each other up “filling in the blanks”.

Instead, what if your team showed up ready to:

  • Rally around the vision for the organization’s shared success.

  • Build pipeline without skipping a beat.

  • Deliver value propositions to their customers or partners in the critical priority areas.

  • Work toward milestones in their account plans.

  • Hit their quota.

  • Run with their assignments.

  • Collaborate with other departments to serve customers quickly.

  • Take action!

That second scenario is completely possible. Don’t waste January defining your strategy and sharing it with your team. Make your key decisions before your new year begins so you can hit the ground running.

We’ve been coaching sales teams for decades, and we’ve developed a quick-start plan for action.
